maybe it would be fun to have an internal taiko competition?
just the few of us just for testers?

n then perhaps if its successful, we can liase with ZoneX
and probably get some sponsors.

its a good way of getting to know more taiko players
and directing traffic flow to our forum
and giving us publicity

I strongly agree with Yue to a large extent. (sorry not doing essay or anything here) that way we can gain publicity + organize competition+ possibly gain attention of zonex to help.

n rules n regulations of the competition is needed.
and how we gonna judge and stuff

then we can have an internal one to test out
before we finally roll out an actual one

Competition reminds me of chin kai. hahahah~
He's gonna be the even organizer for sure since he volunteered.
And we need people to alias with ZoneX as well, but to whom we can send in letter, that's another question. xD

And we shall test run the competition too!!
And mode will be the 4 levels: Easy, Medium, Hard, Oni.
This will make sure anyone can join~

Sweets and chocolates. And there will be cheap registration fee like $2 or something.
Then go daiso or those ABC shops and buy prizes.
Winners get more stuffs then non-winners. And non-winners also can get stuffs.
And kids are easy to get contented. Just anyhow wrap those sweets and choco in the wrapping paper and TA-DAH~ you get your winners present~ xD

Updated post.
As for the prize, we can anyhow print some cert and laminate it and give out to those kids. They like this kind of lame thingy.

And prizes can range from like daiso stuffs to lollipop for kids etc
As for the rest, we can give according to what we collected in the registration + prizes leftover.

its sth like...

[Discussion] Taiko Competition Empty Proposal

Post by HareHareYukai Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:49 pm

This is another method of competition as opposed to CK's. Definitely, CK's is more organized and less confusing, but this is in some ways a fairer method.

Taiko Competition Schedule
The competition should have a few stages, namely:
Qualifying Rounds
Quarter-Finals
Semi-Finals
Finals

Qualifying Rounds

The Qualifying Rounds will consist of any number of participants. Participants will be playing solo, 9 songs in total.
These include:
6 personal preference songs(One from each category)
1 RANDOM lucky dip song
1 RANDOM 2x speed song(from list of organizers’ pre-selected 2x songs)
1 RANDOM opposite song(from list of organizers’ pre-selected opposite songs)

The top 8 participants who get the highest total score from the 9 songs will make it into the Quarter-Finals.

It doesn’t matter if a participant loses. The song’s score will still be taken, and all 9 songs have to be played.

Quarter-Finals

The 8 participants who make it into the quarter-finals will be randomly divided into two groups, A and B.
A participant will play against each of his/her opponents in the same group once.
Two participants in each group with the highest win/lose record will make it into the Semi-Finals.

Semi-Finals

The 4 participants will play against the opponents from the other group in the Quarter-finals. The two with the highest winning ratio will make it into the Finals.

Guidelines for Quarter-Finals And Semi-Finals

Each player may select 2 songs out of the 4 songs in 1v1 for both quarter-finals and semi-finals.
No song is to be repeatedly selected by a player in both quarter-finals and semi-finals.
A coin flip or any other method will be used to decide who selects the 1st,3rd song, and who selects the 2nd, 4th song.
When a player is playing his own selected song, he takes the right drum.
NO special sound effects, Speed increments, or opposite mode is allowed. Also, throughout the entire competition, NO CODE songs are allowed for convenience of the 1v1 proceedings.

Finals

The finals will be a best-of-3 contest. The player who wins 2 out of 3 full games(4 songs each) will be the Champion. Songs are selected by the participants again, similar to the quarter-finals and semi-finals proceedings.

The similar coin flip method will be used to decide who order of song selection and use of right drum.
However, a player MAY use the songs previously used for quarter or semi-finals.
Similarily, NO special sound effects, speed increments, opposite mode, or code songs are allowed.

Note for ALL quarter-finals, semi-finals, finals matches: scores are noted down, not shown at the end of the game, due to the right drum rule, so that everyone gets to use the right drum equally. Also, in the occasion of a similar number of win/loses, the difference in the lose matches will be the judging criteria of the better lose. In that case, the score of the loser in a lose match will be compared against the winner, and the highest mean percentage will be the best lose match in the group.

[Discussion] Taiko Competition Empty Re: [Discussion] Taiko Competition

Post by HareHareYukai Mon Oct 13, 2008 11:51 pm

This is an EXAMPLE of a competition:
Qualifying Rounds:
Yay 50000pts IN
No 45000pts IN
Ohyes 40000pts IN
Ohno 35000pts IN
OMG? 30000pts IN
OMG! 25000pts IN
Hehe 20000pts IN
Keke 15000pts IN
LOL 10000pts OUT
XDXD 5000pts OUT
xD 1000pts OUT

Quarter-Finals:
Group A: 1:Yay 2:Ohyes 3:OMG? 4:Hehe
Group B: 1: No 2:Ohno 3:OMG! 4:Keke

A1 vs A2(W)/ A1 vs A3(W) /A1(W) vs A4/ A2(W) vs A3/ A2(W) vs A4/ A3 vs A4(W)
A1: 1 win 2 lose[lose score percentages 50% and 70%, avg 60%]
A2: 3 win 0 lose
A3: 1 win 2 lose[lose score percentages 90% and 60%, avg 75%]
A4: 1 win 2 lose[lose score percentages 95% and 75%, avg 85%]< highest lose score

B1(W) vs B2/ B1(W) vs B3/ B1 vs B4(W)/B2 vs B3(W)/ B2(W) vs B4/ B3(W) vs B4
B1: 2 win 1 lose
B2: 1 win 2 lose
B3: 2 win 1 lose
B4: 1 win 2 lose

So A2:Ohyes, A4:Hehe, B1:No, B3:OMG!, move into semis.

Semi-Finals
Ohyes(W) VS No,
Ohyes(W) VS OMG!
Hehe(W) VS No
Hehe(W) VS OMG!

Finals
Ohyes VS Hehe
Round 1
Ohyes 123456pts Hehe654321pts WIN
Ohyes 321456ptsWIN Hehe 123456pts
Ohyes 10000pts Hehe 20000pts WIN

Hehe is the champion.

This system has benefits and weaknesses:
Benefits: More fair because it is not knockout and can face more opponents in one stage.
Weaknesses: May take quite some time because of long schedule, and lose percentages may be unconvincing to some people for a loss.

Actually this was done using one hour at around 8pm, but then some error occured and I had to redo it. sorry for late post. xD review the method and feedback please. confusing and long, but its MUCH fairer.

your mtd looks good

cept for a few things.
if there r not many players, the qualifying rounds is not needed i guess

and at the quart finals and all...
well... if lets say i got in n u got in..
u choose 2000 songs... and i'm dead!
however, wadever songs i choose, u can play i guess.
so... hahahahaha

maybe that part has to be random too?
or maybe we can do this.
out of the 4 songs
1 choosen by participant A 1 by participant B
n 2 random lucky songs.

will that be fairer?

To say the truth, i not very sure if it's fair by what blyx had suggested.
Not many people can play a whole list of oni songs like what blyx and me can do. Out of 114 songs in the arcade, blyx can pass the 112 oni songs right now and i can only pass around 100 oni songs the max?? As for muzukashii level, if i can pass all those 114 songs in muzu, blyx can pass it for sure too.

So, it's kinda not really that fair as in the sense that it really excludes a lot of people out there who just play for fun under normal and muzu mode.
Unless you're referring to each individual category of normal, hard and oni, else if all of them are competing together, I think most of us will know who the top 3 positions will turn out to be.

Perhaps like just give the winner a self-made bachi? I believe people who truly love Taiko no Tatsujin would want one o.o?

I think having a knockout round is easier... For example, A vs B. B lost, A advances. C VS D, C lost, D advance. Then D VS A something like that

like i said. Actually, some people do not play some songs. So myswell we just select some easier songs like oni 4-5 star songs where everyone can play. So it's actually determining whether you can fc + more liangs. it's more efficient than a 10 star oni song right?

5 posts in a row.. o.O

LjSJack,
As for the knock out round you said, it's easy, but not that fair. Cos' let's take for example you are better than Person A, B, C, D. But then, you're not versus against them, instead you versus with blyx and Person A, B, C, D who are poorer than you gets into the next round.

I don't think that's fair since everyone should have equal chances to pit against everyone to see who is really good. Song wise can be from random draws from certain stars songs and less challenger-pick songs.

perhaps we should have different mode competitions? is that fairer?
and erm knockout is definitely the easy way out.. but just imagine.. what if i face yuu in the quarters.

so muzukashi players face off against muzukashi players etc.

if you ask zonex to support us, i think they might go along with knockout cuz its the simplest.. but it really.. really defeats the purpose. It might end up becoming a game of luck. whts more they'll probably insist on one person using the left drum throughout.
